Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities for 2013Each year, Outreach Training Institute awards a limited number of partial and full merit- and income-based scholarships to students who demonstrate both a financial need and an outstanding potential to excel as counselors. Roughly a third of our students receive these scholarships each year, so priority is given to applicants who apply early. Our awards are highly competitive and we advise you to review the basic financial and scholastic criteria below. Basic Criteria. The Admissions Committee will review an applicant’s financial documents to determine his or her eligibility for financial aid or income/merit-based scholarships to accommodate partial or full-tuition remission. An applicant must demonstrate a commitment to employment and the potential for career advancement in the substance abuse field during and beyond their tenure at Outreach Training Institute. Upon award of a scholarship, in order to maintain his/her scholarship, recipients must meet certain requirements by maintaining satisfactory progress in multiple performance areas (be in good academic standing, maintain satisfactory attendance, etc.) These will be discussed during the second interviews. Financial AidApplicants who are accepted into the program must meet specific income eligibility requirements to qualify for up to 25% financial aid: to qualify, candidate’s individual income for the prior and current year may not exceed $28,000. Partial Scholarship OpportunitiesBased on income eligibility, for a candidate interested in the partial scholarships, his/her individual income for the prior and current year may not exceed $24,000. Commitment to the Underserved Scholarship Applicants who are accepted and qualify for the Commitment to The Underserved Scholarship must demonstrate financial need, as well as a commitment to providing substance abuse services to traditionally underserved populations, with an emphasis on linguistically and culturally diverse populations (as determined by the Admissions Committee). The scholarship will cover 50% of the tuition ($2225). Workforce Development Scholarship Applicants who are accepted and qualify for the Workforce Development Scholarship must demonstrate financial need, commitment to employment in the substance abuse field, and the potential for career advancement in the substance abuse field, as determined by the Admissions Committee. The scholarship will cover 50% of the tuition ($2225). Full Scholarship OpportunitiesBased on income for a candidate interested in the full scholarship, his/her individual income for the prior and current year may not exceed $20,000. Commitment to Excellence Scholarship Our most competitive scholarship, For New York City residents with limited employment history and who have no more than a high school diploma or G.E.D., the Commitment to Excellence Scholarship covers 100% of tuition, along with services to promote optimal training and career development. Applicants who are accepted and qualify for the Commitment to Excellence Scholarship must demonstrate financial need, commitment to employment in the substance abuse field, and the potential for career advancement in the substance abuse field, as determined by the Admissions Committee. Department of Health Workforce Retraining Scholarship Outreach Training Institute is currently offering full scholarships under a Department of Health Workforce Retraining grant for interested applicants who are currently at risk of layoff or have been laid off from the healthcare field. To be eligible, applicants cannot be credentialed or otherwise certified as a QHP (Qualified Health Professional). Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma/G.E.D. equivalent and meet various admission criteria. Applicants must work part-time or full-time for, or have been recently laid off by, a licensed healthcare provider, with appropriate documentation. Please see flyer for additional details. |
