Program
Philosophy
Outreach Development
Corporation, is committed to a philosophy for our Non-Secure
Detention program which supports both the mission of Outreach
Project and the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice.
Our belief at
Outreach is that the time spent at Outreach Haven will provide the
adolescent and their family the opportunity to make
positive changes both during their stay and after leaving
Outreach Haven, that will allow them to pursue a more healthy and
productive life.
The Department of
Juvenile Justice’s responsibility to provide for the temporary
custody, care, and control of youngsters accused of committing
delinquent or criminal acts and detained by police arrest or court
order is accomplished by the safe and nurturing structure provided
at Outreach Haven.
It is the
program’s belief that while in a setting which protects the
adolescent from the influences and stresses of their community, they
are both psychologically and physically safe and in an environment
where social and emotional learning can occur.
